A lovely handmade viola bow made by the English maker H. Byrom in Canterbury. Clearly a student of the ex W. E. Hill and Sons, Arthur Bultitude school this fine bow is mounted in silver with a silver engraved rose inlaid into the frog. The button is neatly inlaid with mother of pearl on each facet.
The frog is mounted to the stick without a metal underslide, something the great early French makers like F. X Tourte did but fell out of fashion in the mid 1800s. We find this ever rarer mounting method increases the warmth of the tone, warmth which this bow provides wonderfully.
